TUTORIALS ABOUT COLOR CORRECTION IN PHOTOSHOP
Are some of your most precious memories stored on pictures that look too dark? This video demonstrates how to brighten digital pictures and photos using Adobe Photoshop.
I'd have suggested the highlight/shadows features which is available in Photoshop CS and Photoshop Elements 3.0, but Ulla only has Photoshop 5.5 to work with. For this tutorial, I'm going to show you both the shadow/highlights method, and another method using adjustment layers and a selection mask. I'm using Photoshop Elements 3.0 in my screen shots, but you can use any version of Photoshop from 5 up or any version of Photoshop Elements.

To follow along with me, right click the original image above and save it to your computer, then open it in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
I used the polygonal lasso tool to make a quick selection of the buildings. If you have Photoshop CS or Photoshop Elements 3, go on to the next step, otherwise, skip ahead to step 4.
If you have Photoshop CS, go to Image > Enhance > Shadow/Highlights.
In Photoshop Elements 3, go to Enhance > Lighting > Shadow/Highlights.
The default settings work well, and if you have one of these versions of Photoshop, you can click OK and your work is done. If you have an older version of Photoshop, you don't have the shadow/highlights adjustment, and you'll need to do this differently.
